Good morning and thanks for hosting this presentation. Can you talk about/touch on recycling and reduction: which of these two should individuals and organization be focusing on for the most positive impact?

59:04
The EPA recommends reducing food waste through source reduction first, followed by donations to feeding agencies, donations to farmers, industrial use and composting. The last option, which should be utilized the least, is disposal in a landfill.

Hi folks! I work with a non-profit called Buddysystem and recently we’ve taken on the project to bring community fridges to Miami-Dade and we have established two so far. Besides supporting the community with food support, one of our goals is to also fight food waste. Anyone can take from the fridge and folks are encouraged to donate!

01:00:43
Can you give an example of a positive reinforcement? How can we encourage students on campus?

Good Morning everyone! Sorry I was late

01:03:03
good morning!

01:04:48
can you provide a few names of phone apps that will assist with pick up of food to be recovered?

01:05:25
Encouraging students on campus to reduce their food waste through positive reinforcement begins with offering options and alternatives to simply discarding food that can be collected and donated or used for composting. Locate the on campus programs that promote these efforts and work with them to raise awareness toward larger participation.

01:06:11
Karena, here is a blog about food recovery apps you might look at: https://www.foodrecoverynetwork.org/blog/2019/8/27/6-apps-for-reducing-food-waste

01:06:12
I am Miami Site Director for Food Rescue US Miami and we use an app to record and track all food rescues.

01:07:03
Ellen can you provide the name of the app you use.

01:07:17
Also! There is this composting non-profit that was founded by 4 ambitious teenagers and siblings- It’s called back2earth. This is great for folks that want to compost but can’t do so at home, as they provide a service where they will provide you with a bucket and do a weekly pick up. They also have sites across Miami and you are able to drop off your compost there. I, for example, freeze my compost and will drop off once a week! Feel free to check them out here: https://back2earth.org
